Heating Problems We Often Diagnose & Repair
No Heat or Weak Heat
If your system is running but your home still feels cold, the cause may involve airflow, controls, burners, heat exchangers, refrigerant, or other heating components.
Uneven Heating
Cold rooms and inconsistent temperatures can point to airflow problems, ductwork issues, thermostat placement, system sizing, or equipment performance.
Heating System Won’t Start
When a furnace, boiler, or heat pump will not turn on, we can inspect the thermostat, electrical controls, safety switches, ignition system, and related components.
Short Cycling
A heating system that repeatedly starts and stops may be dealing with airflow restrictions, thermostat problems, overheating, equipment sizing, or another underlying fault.
Unusual Noises or Odors
Banging, rattling, grinding, squealing, burning smells, or other unusual signs can indicate mechanical, electrical, airflow, or combustion-related issues that should be checked.
Boiler & Heat Pump Problems
Low heat output, pressure issues, circulation problems, frozen components, or poor performance can affect boilers and heat pumps and require in-depth diagnostics.
Why Heating Systems Lose Efficiency
01
Home Heat Loss & Heating Load
A heating system has to overcome the actual heat loss of the home. Insulation, windows, air leakage, square footage, ceiling height, and layout all influence how much heating capacity is needed to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.
02
Ductwork & Hydronic Distribution
Furnaces and heat pumps rely on proper airflow through ducts, while boilers depend on effective hot-water circulation through piping, radiators, or baseboards. Leaky ducts, restricted airflow, circulator problems, trapped air, or poor distribution can leave parts of the home cold.
03
Heating Equipment & Controls
Furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps depend on different components to produce and distribute heat. Burners, ignition systems, heat exchangers, blower motors, circulator pumps, zone valves, thermostats, sensors, and electrical controls can all affect heating performance when something isn’t working correctly.

gary45 days agoI was a pleasure to work with Pauly’s Fabrication and HVAC. I reached out to them to see if they could examine and service our furnace as well as examine the existing tank since ours was an older installation. I was surprised how promptly they were able to fit me in the schedule. The furnace checked out fine so they cleaned and serviced the furnace. Paul thought that the oil tank was probably OK but recommended keeping an eye on it because it had a bit of surface rust and was an older tank. I let him know that we use the place seasonally and my wife wouldn’t feel comfortable for us to just keep an eye on it. I asked him to work up a quote on installing a new tank. He said he would get one out to me when he got back home. He sent an itemized quote and I found the price to be In the low mid range of what one would expect to pay. Because he was as prompt as he was in scheduling me, getting back to me with the itemized quote and the initial service I signed the contract for him to do the tank installation. I would recommend Pauly’s Fabrication & HVAC to anyone. Gary S.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Posted on Google![]()

Sean Ryan167 days agoI couldn’t be happier with the service. He found a leak in the system gave me options on repair verses replacement. Was quick to follow up and get the repair completed and had my system back running within a day. The thing that stood out was he took the time to level my outside unit back up without being asked. Just those small details that make a difference. I would highly recommend them for all your HVAC needs.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Posted on Google![]()

Alicia Brown344 days agoHe was very friendly and answered all questions I had. When asking about why we were having so many issues, he explained that prior people had system set up where it was rubbing on metal creating hole. He adjusted it so that it wouldn't be a problem. He kept me informed on how long it would take him and what he was working on. I will be reaching out to them if i have any future problems as they were very easy to work with and I recommend to anyone with issues!Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Posted on Google![]()

Heating & Furnace FAQs
Get answers to common questions about furnace repair, boiler service, heat pumps, heating maintenance, system replacement, and home heating service in Pine Grove, PA.
A furnace can run without producing enough heat because of thermostat problems, restricted airflow, ignition or burner issues, blower problems, safety controls, or other equipment faults. Heating diagnostics can help identify the actual cause before repairs are recommended.
Cold air from the vents may be related to thermostat settings, ignition problems, burner issues, overheating, airflow restrictions, or a furnace that is shutting down before completing a normal heating cycle.
Most heating systems benefit from professional maintenance at least once a year, ideally before the colder season. Routine furnace or boiler service can help identify developing problems, improve reliability, and prepare the equipment for heavier winter use.
A furnace heats air and distributes it through ductwork, while a boiler heats water that circulates through radiators, baseboards, or other hydronic components. Both can provide effective home heating, but they use very different methods to distribute warmth.

Frequent cycling can be caused by thermostat problems, airflow restrictions, overheating, equipment sizing, dirty components, or other control and mechanical issues. Repeated short cycling can increase wear and should be diagnosed.
Modern heat pumps can provide efficient heating through much of the winter, although performance depends on the equipment, outdoor temperatures, the home, and the system design. Some homes may also use supplemental or backup heat during colder conditions.
Replacement may make sense when equipment is aging, requires frequent repairs, struggles to maintain comfort, or has major component problems. The best choice depends on the system’s condition, repair costs, efficiency, and the needs of the home.
